The City of Panama offers many areas of touristic interest, such as Old Panama, founded in 1519 and destroyed by Morgan, the pirate, in 1677. The old city sites on a narrow peninsula with its cathedral acting as centerpiece. Its colonial buildings are built in French style, with neo-clasic influence. It has been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Finally, the modern city of Panama, with its commercial, toristic, financial and residential areas, and its varied cultural life.
Kuna Indians from the San Blas archipelago, manage their 378 islands as an autonomous province; they keep their own economical system, as well as their own language, customs and culture.
