The John F. Kennedy Space Center
On May 5, 1961, a Mercury-Redstone lifted off from Cape Canaveral, carrying Alan Shepard on board, and making thus him the first American in sapce, launching as well the dreams of a generation. Hundreds of people have followed since since that pioneering mission, from the lunar explorers of the Apollo Program to the crews living and working day by day at the international Space Station.
Located on Florida's coast on the Atlantic Ocean, it is home to two launch pads, one of the world's longest runways and the giant Vehicle Assembly Building, USA's third biggest building.
Kennedy Space Center is the last stop on Earth for space travellers, before their journey to the stars. It is here that mission hardware, experiments, astronauts and satellites are brought together. Everything is geared toward safely preparaing each mission for flight. No detail is overlooked, and every step of the process is backed by the most experienced team of engineers and aerospace technicians in the world.
John F. Kennedy Space Center is where the dream of human space flights is turned into reality...
